Q: What is the History and Impact of Crime Stoppers?

A: Crime Stoppers was launched in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1976 when a local detective used the power of media, a reward, and anonymous information to gather information about an unsolved murder. With this system, the murder was solved within 24 hours and Crime Stoppers was born.

Since then, 17 other countries have instituted the Crime Stoppers system including Canada, Australia, the UK, Europe, South Africa, Micronesia, Fiji, the Carribean and Belize. This unique tri-partate cooperative between law enforcement, the media and the community has led to over 1 million cases solved, over 500,000 arrests, more than $1.3 billion in recovered stolen property and confiscated over $4.3 billion in drugs.

The not-for-profit community organization has a board of directors that raises funds for rewards while the media provide the public awareness of its anonymous tips line telephone number and publicizes details of the crime of the week. Law enforcement investigates the information through a Crime Stopper coordinator and brings the fugivites to justice.

The Crime Stopper system is at work in the adult community as well as in schools with Campus Crime Stoppers.

Q: How will the monies and resources be used?

A: Extend the penetration and effectiveness of all current Crime
Stopper programs, on a global scale, through effective marketing,
promotions and awareness "to call" campaigns.

Expand the Crime Stopper system into "hot spots" around North
America, Central America, Europe and the Middle East in order to
secure the information all law enforcement need in order to prevent
crime and terrorism here at home and abroad.

Create strong alliances with established law enforcement bodies such
as the FBI, Interpol, United Nations, World Customs Organization,
Homeland Security, New Scotland Yard, and many others to multiply
the impact of the information that comes from Crime Stopper tips

Q: What are your short-term and long-term goals for resources?

A: The first goal is $100,000.00 by December 31, 2004. This seed money
will then be turned around into Phase II which is $5 million dollars
within three years.

Q: What are you asking from me?

A: We are asking you to step forward, along with other elite
supporters, and help plant the initial seed money.

We know you have local project considerations and we want you to be
comfortable with your support level. We also are asking you to reach
out, beyond your borders, in order to make your community safer
through the work of Crime Stoppers International.

We would like you to be recognized as a leader in the global Crime
Stopper community and we would coordinate all media and recognition
events to highlight your involvement in securing a safer city
through a safer world.
